Unexpected Sighting

Black Vulture,
Coragyps atratus

It’s almost Halloween and my neighborhood is well-known for its holiday decorations. While on a bike ride today, I noticed some dark shapes in somebody’s front yard from a distance and guessed that they were part of a unique macabre scene, but as I approached I was surprised that some of the shapes were in the street.

Road kill isn’t rare around here, but this is the first time I’ve seen vultures in the neighborhood. After enduring yet another gloomy day of existence, this sighting brightened my mood and aroused enough energy to make this post.
